Farmingdale State College (FSC) is the State University of New York’s largest college of applied science and technology with an enrollment of approximately 10,000 students.

The part-time Counselor position requires an engaging, outgoing self-starter who enjoys a collaborative work environment and is available to pursue professional development opportunities. The part-time counselor assists the Director of Disability Services Center (DSC) with planning, developing, and implementing programs, processes, and activities for students with disabilities in accordance with federal and state law, to assure their access to the academic and campus environment. Additionally, the Counselor works collaboratively with DSC colleagues to promote best practices and disability awareness within the campus community.

Job Type:- Part Time

Key Competencies:-

• Proficient ability to review and interpret psycho-educational diagnostic and other documentation to determine appropriate accommodations, in accordance with federal and state regulations.
• Design, promote and implement outreach to faculty each semester identifying the needs of the students with disabilities in their classes: focusing on student who are deaf, HOH, blind, low vision, ASD, TBI, and ADHD.
• Serve as DSC liaison to campus initiatives for online and hybrid instruction and accessibility for our students with disabilities.
• Work with community resources and coordinate the New York State Readers Aid Program (RAP) at Farmingdale State College.
• Provide regular and ongoing pro-active support to students with disabilities.
• Develop and maintain processes for campus program engagement for students with disabilities.

Required Qualifications:-

• A minimum of a Master’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling, Special Education or a related field.
• Proficient understanding of psycho-educational diagnostic evaluations.
• Three to five years of experience working directly with students with disabilities at the high school or college level.
• Knowledge of the Americans with Disability Act and Section 504.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
